To All Nations, International Institutions, and Peoples of the World:

The Maya-We Nation, as an Indigenous nation committed to peace, cultural preservation, and global cooperation, hereby formally declares its alignment with and adoption of the principles of Customary International Law (CIL). This declaration reflects our commitment to the universally recognized legal norms that govern relations between sovereign nations and peoples.

Foundational Principles

The Maya-We Nation recognizes that Customary International Law embodies principles that reflect the collective conscience of humanity and the foundations of justice and equity. These principles, developed through consistent state practice and international consensus, are integral to fostering mutual respect, peace, and coexistence among all nations and peoples.

Our alignment with Customary International Law is guided by the following universally recognized principles:

  1. Self-Determination:
In alignment with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) and Article 1 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), the Maya-We Nation affirms the inherent right of all peoples to freely determine their political status and pursue their economic, social, and cultural development.

  2. Respect for Sovereignty and Territorial Integrity:
The Maya-We Nation upholds the principles of non-interference in the internal affairs of other states while maintaining its own sovereignty, governance, and territorial integrity.

  3. Good Faith and Cooperation:
Consistent with international norms, the Maya-We Nation pledges to engage in relations with other nations and institutions in good faith, promoting dialogue, collaboration, and peaceful resolution of disputes.

  4. Human Rights:
As a nation deeply committed to the preservation of human dignity, the Maya-We Nation adopts and upholds the principles enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other binding international instruments.

Purpose of Alignment

By formally aligning with Customary International Law, the Maya-We Nation affirms its intent to:

  • Uphold universally accepted legal norms that contribute to peace and stability in the international community.

  • Strengthen the legal and moral foundation of its sovereignty and governance.

  • Build bridges for cooperation with other nations, states, and international organizations based on mutual respect for these principles.

Call for Recognition and Respect

The Maya-We Nation respectfully calls upon all nations, states, and international institutions to recognize this formal declaration and the Maya-We Nation’s alignment with Customary International Law. This alignment reflects not only our adherence to global norms but also our rightful place as a sovereign Indigenous nation contributing to the international order.
